What are ESG and how can we measure them ?

First of all, we have to understand the meaning of these initials.

These 3 initials refer to: “Environmental, Social and Governance” To analyze how a company impacts society, it is important to analyze these 3 pillars.

Nowadays, in addition to analyzing economic factors in companies, it is also necessary to analyze their duration over time. A company that meets certain requirements is more likely to persist over time. If we analyze only the economic point of view, we are not looking at the company in the future and it is not a sufficient condition to decide to invest, or trust this company.

The definition of “E” in ESG: The Environment component of ESG covers how the business interacts with the natural environment. When we say interaction with the environment, we must take into account both the direct and indirect effects. The emission of gases, the use of raw materials and land, are some examples of direct effects. The indirect ones are everything that happens upstream and downstream of the company.

The “S” refers to the social part, that is, how the organization affects people. People include customers, workers, suppliers and all those who are part of the supply chain. The factors that are analyzed are: wages, welfare, equality, justice and inclusion. In addition, to always having employees motivated and in permanent personal growth. Good level in these aspects ensure the stability of the company.

The “G”, which is government, is related to the hierarchical structure of the organization, from the division of tasks and obligations to the procedures with which the organization works.
